Accreditation & Memberships

The Accreditation Council for Higher Education (ACHE) is a governmental organization in the Kingdom of Wallis and Fatuna with offices maintained in the Kingdom. It is an independent, national, institutional accrediting council recognized by the Ministry of Education of Kingdom of Wallis and Fatuna Islands. The Accreditation Council for Higher Education (ACHE), it is a statutory body currently under the portfolio of the Minister of Education and Culture.

The Accrediting Council was established in Wallis & Fatuna Kingdom. The Council's mission is to promote, by means of standard-setting, evaluation, and consultation processes, the development and maintenance of high educational and ethical standards in education and training programs delivered through distance learning. The ACHE Accrediting Council identifies and accredits distance education and training institutions that have attained and maintained the standards deemed necessary to operate at a high level of quality.

The Accrediting Council's recognition by the Ministry of Education and Culture are for postsecondary programs purposes only. Since the Wallis Secretary's authority is statutorily limited to postsecondary institutions in the Kingdom, this Ministry recognition encompasses only ACHE accreditation in this area. Presently, the Council's scope of recognition extends only through the first professional degree level.

The Council establishes educational, ethical and business standards; it examines and evaluates distance education institutions in terms of these standards; and accredits those who qualify. Its accrediting program employs procedures similar to those of other recognized educational accrediting agencies. The Council’s procedures and standards have been continuously refined and improved over the past half century.

Distance study institutions located outside the Kingdom are eligible to apply for accreditation. The opportunity to apply for accreditation is open to private and public distance education institutions, both at the degree (Associates through the First Professional degree level) and non-degree levels.

The Accreditation Council for Higher Education has been the standard-setting agency for correspondence study and distance education institutions since it was established. Its purpose was, and still is today, "to foster and preserve high quality, educationally sound and widely accepted distance education and independent learning institutions."

The ACHE Accrediting Council performs the institutional accrediting functions of the ACHE. ACHE member institutions offer more than 400 different academic, vocational, and a vocational courses by mail or by telecommunications. These courses often make use of specially written learning texts and quite often include audio-visual training devices, job enhancing materials, tools, computers, and other equipment. Course length ranges from a few weeks to over four years of study. Although most distance study institutions teach students entirely "at distance," some institutions offer courses which feature a combination of distance study and resident training. The ACHE conducts a continuing professional development program for distance study educators. Seminars and conferences devoted to distance education are held each year and are open to any individual with an interest in distance education. Accreditation Council for Higher Education has its permanent international headquarters in Wallis & Fatuna Islands, and connected to the International Head Office are a number of local offices around the world. ACHE is officially recognized by the ministry of education as the global non-governmental organization responsible for the field of open and distance learning .

The Accreditation Council for Higher Education (ACHE) accredits University of Honolulu. UH On Campus and Distance Learning Programs towards Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs degrees.

Accreditation of an institution by the Accreditation Council for Higher Education (ACHE) and International Accreditation for Universities, Colleges and Institutes (IAUCI) indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process. An accredited school or college is one which has avail the necessary resources to achieve its stated mission through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.
